GS1 Canada is actively looking to add an Industry Relations leader who brings broad industry experience and an ability to leverage cross-industry best-practice to support our work across the foodservice, grocery and retail sectors, including supply chain.   

In this VP, Industry Relations role, the successful candidate will be responsible for meeting sector and community needs, achieving cost recovery objectives and meeting corporate goals. The successful candidate will also be responsible for building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, leading strategic planning and working with a team of outstanding performers.

As a member of GS1 Canada’s Team, this senior leader will also be a key contributor to the organization’s business health and growth.

What you’ll do:

Sector Strategy Development

  • Develop strategic sector plans based on industry priorities in the areas of foodservice
  • Create, drive and manage critical strategies for government, industry associations and stakeholders to ensure retention and growth
  • Collaborate with GS1 US Foodservice leads and other global contacts as required to leverage insights and best practice to further GS1 Canada’s sector strategies
  • Provide strategic insight to internal stakeholders to deliver and maximize value
  • Ensure that corporate strategy is integrated within departmental priorities.

Manages Stakeholders:

  • Develop and execute stakeholder initiatives, manage communities and working groups, and direct implementation of plans and projects based on identified industry knowledge and industry trends, including service provider offerings
  • Provide executive-level reporting to stakeholders both internally and externally

Financial Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally on positioning and pricing to meet cost-recovery goals
  • Secure and execute contract negotiations with existing and potential stakeholders
  • Deliver change/action plan to increase value to stakeholders and facilitate cost-recovery targets

Leading within the Organization:

  • Collaborate with team by providing strategies and plans to engage vendor community
  • Support others through obstacles, learning and development
  • Ensure thorough understanding among the team of relevant emerging technologies and services
  • Model the GS1 Canada values and provide leadership to develop and maintain a strong culture of engagement

What you’ll bring:

  • 10-15 years experience in strategic planning, sales, distribution, and supply chain in foodservice; with experience in grocery an asset
  • Completed post-secondary education and an interest in continued learning
  • A strong understanding of business processes, issues, and opportunities within our key sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to develop/execute strategic plans considering industry trends
  • Demonstrated success in defining and launching initiatives in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and developing a diverse team of professionals
  • Passionate, flexible, and goal driven, with an entrepreneurial spirit suitable for a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
  • Ability and desire to seek out new learning and insights to deliver against expectations and targets
