As an innovative, strategic, creative Industry Relations expert, you will be responsible for managing stakeholders at various levels, driving strategic stakeholder engagement and integration plans, augmenting relationships, and collaborating with both internal and external colleagues to execute those plans and deliver on agreed-to targets. As a Senior Director, Industry Relations, you will aim to position GS1 Canada as a strategic partner to the stakeholder organizations. You will continually seek to achieve cost recovery targets and meet corporate strategic objectives.

  • Build strategic partnerships with existing and prospective stakeholders by developing a deep understanding of relevant business processes, identifying pain points and opportunities, and providing solutions that drive value through enhanced effectiveness, efficiency and/or cost savings
  • Articulate the GS1 Canada and ECCnet platform value propositions and facilitate stakeholder dialogues and presentations to educate on best practice to realize full value and to secure support for industry protocols
  • Create an annual, rolling business plan with targets aligned to organization, department and sector goals; including cost recovery and increasing stakeholder dependencies,
  • Gain stakeholder commitment to the execution of the strategies, tactics and milestone dates within the plan, ensuring in the case of Data Recipients demonstrated support for industry protocols;
  • Contribute to organization goals and strategies by representing the Industry Relations team on internal projects, ensuring a two-way dialogue between project team and Industry Relations team
  • Participate in industry and government events and stay up to date on industry trends and initiatives
  • Demonstrate understanding of emerging technologies and services provided by GS1 Canada
  • Participate in cost recovery and expense budget planning
  • Manage executive level reporting for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Industry Relations team and with other GS1 functions, providing leadership, coaching and mentorship to support development of colleagues
  • Foster a work environment where people feel supported, motivated, and driven to contribute to organizational goals


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business / Communications / Arts / Computer Science; PG in Commerce or Business (e.g. MBA) an asset
  • At least 10 years experience as a Director in the Food, Retail or FMCG sectors with a strong knowledge of supply chain distribution, customer management, digital commerce and category planning; with a solid network to target and cultivate for business development purposes
  • Solid understanding of business processes, issues and opportunities within different business sectors; particularly in food and retail
  • Ability to operate at a strategic level, contributing to both vision and tactical capabilities, combined with the ability to translate strategic objectives into executable actions
  • Leadership and influencing skills to effectively facilitate dialogue, communicate with all levels, and gain the confidence and support of internal and external stakeholders
  • Passionate about learning and garnering insights to continually improve, innovate and stay-ahead-of-the-game
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Bilingualism (French & English) an asset
